Campaign

Join the NUT/NUS Hidden Costs Campaign and help us raise awareness of the financial burden student teachers face whilst on school placement. For more information, click here.

If there is an issue on your campus that you feel strongly about, the NUT can help you plan a campaign.

When planning a campaign you need to decide if the issue is:

  • Widely felt, affecting a lot of members
  • Deeply felt, there is a significant strength of feeling about the issue amongst members.
  • Winnable, will see a success with the right action; and
  • Visible, can be run in a way that is inclusive and high profile to inspire confidence in your members and other students.

Examples of campaigns you could run are:

  • The NUT/NUS Hidden Costs Campaign
  • Improving conditions for students on placement
  • Campaigning for free parking for students on campus
  • More core text books in the Faculty library
  • Longer hours of availability with your course leader each week

Once you have done this think about the following:

  • Needs - what is the need for change;
  • Aims - what actually are you trying to change;
  • Objectives - what are your indications so that you know you are on track;
  • Method - what activities will achieve change and get your members involved;
  • Implementation - how will you make this happen practically;
  • Evaluation - did it all work?

Again, if the issue is something that your course-mates or NUT Society feels strongly about, contact your NUT Student Officer or regional office immediately for help with planning a course of action.

Working with the Students Union and student reps on campus

Each department will have student/academic reps who will be linked in with the union and should be key allies in your campaigns. Most students unions have an education officer and a welfare officer (often the same role) who will be key to the success of your campaigns.
